Emerald Sapphire Gemfields

The Sapphire Gemfields located near to Emerald are a popular tourist attraction in the area and it’s not hard to see why. Sapphires were first discovered in this area back in 1875 and the gemfields are some of the largest in the world, spanning over a 900-kilometre radius. The best places to visit the gemfields are in the townships of Sapphire, Anakie and Rubyvale, located a short drive away from Emerald.

There are plenty of opportunities to learn all about the sapphires and their history at the gemfields. Options include underground mining tours, sapphire shops and you can even try your hand at digging for your own sapphires in one of the digging tours.
